Update 08-07-07
Hi Guys,
Sorry its been a while. Just a quick update. After the ongoing battle I had with BT I decided to cancel my contract with them, because I had a engineers report saying the line wasnt compatible I wasnt held to the contract. I have now moved to Thailand. Bit drastic I know. But better life style out here and guess what I now have a stable 2mb internet connection.

I am not surprised at all!
BT, along with far too much else in the UK lags behind some "3rd world/developing" countries, let alone western Europe...
This is me being polite.

I live in Spain and when I come down here from the UK I was expecting a very bad experience with broadband. I was really surprised, although it is a bit more pricy than the UK, when you order a 3mb link mostly that is what you get. Come on UK get with the program adn stop ripping off the people.

Hello,
Please find copied below news from broadband comparison website, Top 10 Broadband, who is today announcing the results of its inaugural broadband comparison awards which have seen O2 come out as the clear winner – coming top in the Fastest Broadband and Customer Satisfaction categories
Top 10 Broadband the UK’s leading broadband comparison site and guide (www.top10-broadband.co.uk) has today announced the results of its inaugural annual broadband awards. Winners included O2 as the fastest broadband provider, BT as the winner in the wireless broadband category and ‘3' won the award for best mobile broadband provider.
The awards closely analysed data captured in over 310,000 speed tests that were carried out on the Top 10 Broadband site and offer recognition to broadband providers that have achieved excellence in their field. UK broadband providers had their services rigorously tested against a wide range of criteria that included fastest broadband, customer satisfaction and best broadband bundle.
O2 wins the Fastest Broadband and Customer Satisfaction awards, with an average download speed of 6.128Mb and customer rating of 3.84 out of 5. It is best for providing UK consumers, who are regularly downloading and streaming live video and gaming online, with a fast download speed, which, among other factors, is vital to be able to watch video quickly and successfully without the connection dropping in and out or the download taking a long time.
Flexibility and mobile wireless broadband packages are other features UK broadband customers are looking for as they continue to use broadband on their laptops, and increasingly on their mobiles, to communicate on the move. 3’s victory in the Mobile Broadband category can be attributed to its range of packages with expansive download allowance, laptop deals and hardware options. With mobile broadband sales increasing by 50% month-on-month this is the fastest-moving and most progressive sector of the broadband market.
The Wireless Broadband award went to BT because of the fact that its HomeHub 2.0 device doubles the wireless reach and facilitates digital TV via BT Vision.
“The winners of the Top 10 Broadband awards have distinguished themselves in the UK broadband market by offering first-class packages tailored to niche areas of the market,” says Jessica McArdle, Web Editor at Top10-Broadband.co.uk.
Customer reviews and specific package offerings including price, download allowance, contract length and speed of over 120 broadband packages were also judged by the Top 10 Broadband team.
“The Top 10 Broadband awards amount to a comprehensive guide to the best broadband packages on the market allowing the public to make informed buying decisions,” says McArdle.

Came across your blog while browsing for people having the same problems as me. I have BT Broadband option 3 (Unlimited Download limit) I noticed months ago that I was receiving very slow download speeds. BT called and offered me BT Vision on a 6 months free trial, which I accepted. Have been totally unable to watch the video on demand service without it Locking up and stuttering. After many complaints and frustrating calls terminating in India, an engineer was sent out and told me my line speed was too slow. He gave me a number to call direct to get through to Broadband technical support. I was astonished to be told my line was "capped" as I was downloading too much data! I informed the guy I had unlimited downloads on option 3, "ah but thats a theoretical unlimited download level" I was told. " After around 30G of data downloads per month we cap your line". Recently my home hub has been dropping out as well, when I call Bt I'm told that my land line doesnt have bt broadband ! Yesterday was the last straw, my broadband line dropped 5 times during the day. I called BT and now I have been told I have a "TAG" on the line, no one can tell me who put this on my line or why. Last night I emailed the CEO of BT at ian.livingston@bt.com. Today I have received 2 calls from the BT Broadband and BT Vision High Level complaints teams telling me that my complaints are being investigated... we will see. BT has one of the highest charges in the country for it's services and surely the worst customer care in the world!
